With the increase in the demand for care at home, we quizzed local company, Home Instead Bristol North about what kind of care they provide, why care at home is so popular and what people should be looking for in a provider:
What does Home Instead do?
Home Instead is a homecare company based in Westbury-on-Trym, which support adults across the north Bristol area.
We provide unrushed, person-centred care to our clients to help them remain living safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible. This can be by helping with light housework, shopping and cooking, prompting medication or assisting with personal care routines.
We also love to encourage and support our clients to keep up with their favourite hobbies and interests, which can include arts and crafts, games, puzzles, nature and the outdoors, as well as music and literature. At the heart of our person-centred approach is taking the time to find out about each person’s individual needs and interests. We then match a small team of carers to them, who will visit consistently, for a minimum of an hour at a time, so that a bond and friendship can develop. Our aim is to bring joy to each client everyday and help them live their lives to the full.
2. Why do you think home care is becoming more popular?
We all feel at ease in our own homes and are at our happiest when surrounded by the things we love and that bring back happy memories. This is perhaps even truer as we age and look back at the place where children were born and raised, and where many happy events took place. By having a little extra help at home, our clients can stay in their own familiar surroundings and retain their independence. We can tailor make each person’s care to give them support in the areas they need to continue to live fulfilled lives at home.
3. What are the benefits of home care over residential care?
It’s hard to beat the comfort and familiarity of one’s own home. Also, as we age the personal possessions we have around us can prompt memories and help with recall. Sometimes when people move to new and unfamiliar surroundings, it can be hard for them to settle and adapt to living in a smaller environment.
4. What should people look for in a provider?
When seeking a home care provider, you should check CQC ratings and speak to the providers you feel match best your needs. You should be comfortable that the prospective provider has asked you all the questions you feel are relevant and has detailed information about you and the support you are looking for.
